SWARTLAND, C.P. Vaguely defined region more or less corresponding to the present district of Malmesbury. The first mention of the name on record is in the Governor’s Journal of 26 Aug. 1701, stating that Cpl. Daniel Taus, of the outpost Riebeeck’s Kasteel, had fought there with Bushmen four days previously.
