Natal Native Rebellion 1906 War Medal.
With royal approval the Natal Government in 1907 awarded a silver medal to all who had served in the suppression of the Bambata Rebellion. The Natal Native Rebellion (1906) War Medal bears on the obverse the uncrowned head of King Edward VII facing right, with imperial inscription. The reverse shows the female figure of Natalia standing on a Zulu shield and assagais. In her right hand she holds a great sword, in her left a palm frond. Behind her left shoulder stands the helmeted protecting figure of Britannia holding a tasselled standard and the orb of Peace. In the distance, above a group of unarmed Zulu men, is the rising sun of a new day, shining through dispersing storm- clouds. This medal, which hangs from a ribbon of crimson edged with black, was granted to all who served in the campaign for a continuous period of not less than 20 days. In addition, a clasp bearing the date 1906 was given to all whose continuous service had endured for 50 days. In all, some 10 000 medals were awarded and almost 8 000 clasps.
