Dictionary of South African Biography; a few on the origin of names; Wynberg and early Cape Town; Victorian schooling and times
The histories of (some, but not all) schools in the Cape
Inspection reports, Education Gazettes and other official documents of the Department of Public Education
Photographs of schools, school events and staff
Articles and flyers on museum programmes and education
Magazines on the conservation of the natural and cultural environment
Box files with information on a wide range of environmental topics
Environmental posters for distribution to schools
Education Museum:
The Museum, which is part of the Centre, has the following in its permanent collection:
Classroom and school furniture
Slates, pencils, pens, ink-pots and other items of stationery
Exercise and textbooks
Charts, models and other teaching materials
Audio-visual, science and sports apparatus
Old filing cabinet with the names of teachers on various courses between ±1890 and 1916
Other services:
Small shop selling Victorian school memorabilia
Historic exhibitions arranged for schools and organisations at reasonable cost
Talks to adult interest groups by arrangement
Staff and individual expertise:
Staff consists of fulltime teachers who are available only in the afternoon. They will gladly assist you with queries, but cannot look up information for you.
