Johanna Maria Elizabeth Hofmeyr, wife of Tielman Johannes Roos Hofmeyr, Esquire, Retired Capitalist. Born at Somerset West, Cape Province. Daughter of the late Johan Coenraad and Dorothea de Villiers-Theunissen. Educated Rhenish Institute, Stellenbosch, Cape Province. Holds Teachers’ Certificate from Cape University. Believes that the home is woman’s sphere of influence and usefulness, but takes great interest in political and educational welfare of South Africa.Her beautiful home, Welgemeend, has been for over 120 years the residence of the parent branch of the Hofmeyr family, members of which have figured prominently in the political history of S.A. Although not a militant suffragette is a staunch supporter of the rights of women. She has one son: Tielman Johannes Theunissen. Residence, Welgemeend, 9, Camp Street, Gardens, Cape Town.
