Unfortunately we do not undertake private research due to the large amount of daily inquiries.
If you are looking for documents from the various National Archives repositories please contact us and we will recommend a private researcher in that area. Please provide us with all the details you have on that specific family.
You also need to tell us if you have used a researcher before and provide us with the information and documents given to you so that no duplicate research is done. We can then assess the needs and locate a researcher qualified to undertake you specific research. There are many different aspects to genealogical research and some researchers for instance only go specialise in Archives and others perhaps the Department of Home Affairs, Deeds Office or Military Records.
Costs: These differ considerably from researcher to researcher and there is no hard and fast rule as to what the charges will be and nor is there a governing body that oversees them. When paying a researcher it is important to remember that you are not paying for the information as most of it is in the public domain but you are paying for there time, petrol, photocopying, parking, emails etc.
Remember that you will be required to pay generally 50% upfront and the rest on completion. You should also limit your time to perhaps one hour two start with so that you don’t get billed for an obscene amount.
Lastly it is important to remember that a researcher will not always be able to find what you are looking for – if there are no records for your ancestors then there are none. Don’t expect a researcher to provide you with a family tree going back to Adam and Eve, most families are lucky enough to have recorded documentation going back 100 years – more than that you are very lucky.
Unfortunately we do not hand out lists of researcher’s names and their contact details, so please don’t ask.
