Many of the families who settled here were part of the Groot Trek. People with surnames Families such as Du Plessis, Malan, Pieterse, Ras, De Wet, Lubbe, Greyling, Van Biljoen and Jordaan  are to be found here who have been previously documented as breeders of the Afrikander sheep.
