The History of Fauresmith
The town was laid out on the farm Sannah’s Poort in the inalienable area of the Griqua chief Adam Kok, between the Oranje and Modder Rivers. Sannah’s Poort, allegedly named thus because Adam Kok’s wife Sannah broke her leg there, was let to W. H. Jacobs, but he transferred his lease to the D.R. Church. In spite of protests by Adam Kok, a church settlement was established on the farm in 1849, the oldest but one in the Orange Free State. On the recommendation of Jacobus Groenendaal, a local teacher, the town was named after Philip E. Faure, Moderator of the D.R. Church, who visited the Voortrekkers in Trans-Orangia in 1848, and after Governor Sir Harry Smith. When the O.F.S. became independent in 1854, the first Heemraden were elected, and on 13 December 1859 the town became a municipality. With the Kalkfontein Dam only 15 miles (24 km) from the town, Fauresmith has a permanent source of water, and electricity is obtained from the power-station of De Beers Consolidated Mines at Jagersfontein. A unique feature is the rail way running down the middle of the main street.
Was exciting to read up about Fauresmith, my Grandfather came from there and so did most of the children. My Great Grandfather was Albert Charles Orsmond married to Maria Elizabeth………….I cannot find her maiden name anywhere where I am searching, perhaps you have come across her name before. She is not Catherina Maria Elizabeth nor was she Maria Elizabeth Rosseker.
Many thanks for all your info

when did people with the surname stockhall move to south africa
Looking at records in the National Archives the earliest document for the surname of Stockhall is dated 1902. However this does not give a definite date of when this family arrived as it depemds on what other records their are in the archives which has not been indxed by them.
In 1901 their is a marriage record for William Henry Stockhall which would provide you with more evidence. https://ancestry24.co.za/search-item/?id=C2147982652
